Working together – for a healthy Europe!

30th September to 2nd October 2015, Bad Hofgastein, Austria.

High-level representatives and decision-makers from all over Europe and beyond, about 600 participants from all fields related to health policy making, a three day programme filled with invigorating discussions on how to keep Europe’s health systems secure and Europe’s citizens healthy. You will find this in Bad Hofgastein, Austria, during the 18th European Health Forum Gastein on “Securing Health in Europe. Balancing priorities, sharing responsibilities” from 30th September to 2nd October.

Our Second Programme Announcement provides a comprehensive overview on this year’s topics, covering e- and m-health, development cooperation, public health security, health systems and pricing of medicines, and much more.

The three central pieces of this year’s Forum are its plenaries.

The Opening Plenary on Wednesday, 30th September will address a highly relevant and late-breaking topic: The question of how European member states can join forces to ensure that even in the face of increased migration all in need have access to health care. This plenary on “Securing solidarity in Europe. From Mare Nostrum to Mare Europaeum” will provide a platform to stakeholders from various fields, amongst others high-level European Commission and World Health Organization representatives, to exchange their views and experiences on how we can answer this challenge and provide sustainable and capable European health systems equipped to do their part in easing the recent refugee crisis.

The “Health in All Policies” approach is well-known but does have its pitfalls when it comes to implementation and execution of concrete policy measures. The Thursday Plenary on 1st October will go beyond conceptual considerations but will do a reality check: Where do Europe and the main stakeholders in health stand on the way to fulfilling their “Health in All Policies” aspirations? The session will feature a keynote speech by Hans Jörg Schelling, Federal Minister of Finance, Austria, and will be moderated by Ilona Kickbusch, Director, Global Health Programme, Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Switzerland.

Last but not least, the Closing Plenary will make the circle complete and build on the main discussions and first-hand outcomes of the conference. “Securing health in Europe. Balancing priorities, sharing responsibilities” is the topic, and as a finishing touch to our Forum we have the honour to welcome the EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Vytenis Andriukaitis, Zsuzsanna Jakab, Regional Director, WHO Regional Office for Europe, Rudolf Hundstorfer, Federal Minister of Social Affairs, Austria and Lydia Mutsch, Minister of Health and Minister for Equal Opportunities, Luxembourg, as well as other high-ranking guests to share their views on our main theme.

For a comprehensive list of topics and speakers please refer to our Second Programme Announcement. For the most up to date version, please have a look at the online programme.
