Start: September 2027, London, United Kingdom.
Imperial College London’s intensive Master of Public Health equips ambitious graduates with the analytical, research and practical skills required to address these complex challenges and improve health at population level.
Public health expertise for a changing world
The Master of Public Health at Imperial College London is a one-year, full-time programme designed for graduates who want to build a career in public health, epidemiology or health services research.
Students develop a strong foundation in epidemiology, biostatistics and health research methods while examining how evidence can be translated into effective policies, programmes and interventions. The programme places particular emphasis on quantitative analytical skill, an increasingly important asset for professionals working with health data, evaluating services or advising decision-makers.
Learn from researchers shaping public health practice
The programme is delivered by Imperial’s School of Public Health and brings students into contact with academics and guest speakers who have experience in developing, managing and implementing public health interventions.
Imperial’s research environment gives participants the opportunity to engage with current public health questions and understand how scientific evidence can influence healthcare delivery, prevention strategies and policy. Imperial reports that its public health, health services and primary care research ranked first in the United Kingdom in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework when measured by the proportion assessed as world-leading.
Tailor the programme to your professional goals
Alongside the core elements of the MPH, students can select specialist modules and streams that correspond with their interests and intended career path.
This flexibility allows participants to explore critical areas of public health in greater depth while retaining the broad methodological foundation expected of an MPH graduate. To obtain a specific stream designation, students must select at least three modules associated with that stream.
The programme is particularly suitable for applicants interested in:
- public health practice and policy
- epidemiology and disease prevention
- health services and healthcare evaluation
- quantitative and population-health research
- global and international health challenges
Turn knowledge into research
A central component of the programme is the summer research project. During the final part of the MPH, students undertake an intensive project lasting approximately three to four months and complete a dissertation and viva presentation.
Projects may be conducted with the support of Imperial academics or in collaboration with organisations such as NHS institutions, public health agencies, global health organisations and think tanks. This provides an opportunity to apply newly acquired skills to a substantial, real-world public health question.
