Human AI Summer Course 2026: Where Human Behavior Meets Artificial Intelligence

20th to 31st July 2026, Amsterdam, Netherlands.

What if you could simulate human thoughts, emotions, and social interactions using AI? This summer, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam invites ambitious students to do exactly that.

The Human AI Summer Course (20–31 July 2026) offers a unique opportunity to explore how artificial intelligence can model complex human processes from mental health to social behavior right in the vibrant city of Amsterdam.

Understanding Humans Through AI

Human behavior is complex, adaptive, and constantly evolving. This course dives deep into how mental, social, and health-related processes change over time, and how these changes can be understood through AI-driven models.

Drawing on disciplines like cognitive science, neuroscience, and social sciences, participants learn to uncover the mechanisms behind human behavior and translate them into computational models.

The result? A powerful interdisciplinary perspective that bridges human insight with technological innovation.

From Theory to Simulation

This is not just a theoretical course. Students actively engage with network-oriented modelling techniques, using specialized software to simulate real-world scenarios.

By mapping causal relationships as networks, participants can:

  • Model how thoughts and emotions evolve
  • Simulate social interactions over time
  • Explore health-related behavioral changes

In the second week, students even begin developing their own research project, potentially laying the groundwork for a future publication.

Who Should Apply?

The course is designed for curious minds from any academic background whether you study humanities, social sciences, health, or tech.

You don’t need prior programming experience to join. Instead, what matters is your interest in:

  • Human behavior and social dynamics
  • Artificial intelligence and modelling
  • Interdisciplinary research

Participants range from bachelor’s and master’s students to PhD candidates and professionals, making it a truly international and diverse learning environment.

Study Abroad Meets Academic Innovation

As part of the broader VU Summer School, the course offers more than just academics. Students can:

  • Experience life in one of Europe’s most dynamic cities
  • Build international networks and friendships
  • Engage in a global academic community

With participants from over 60 countries, the summer school creates a truly international classroom.
