European Obesity Forum

Today in Europe obesity is one of the greatest public health challenges of the 21st century. Its prevalence has tripled in many countries of the WHO European Region since the 1980s, and the numbers of those affected continue to rise at an alarming rate. In addition to causing various physical disabilities and psychological problems, excess weight drastically increases a person’s risk of developing a number of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes.

This autumn, the EPODE International Network (EIN) will hold its European Obesity Forum in Lisbon, Portugal, providing the occasion for members of the European platform to participate in best practice sharing and capacity building. This Forum will bring together over 20 Community-Based Programmes from across Europe along with their stakeholders from the scientific, private and political fields. The first two days of this Forum will take the form of closed meetings for members only, during which participants will have the opportunity to get to know new programmes, learn about the latest “EPHE” results and develop and grow thanks to the OPEN workshops led and animated by experts and programme coordinators. The third day will take the form of a plenary conference, bringing together Key Opinion Leaders in the field of obesity prevention and the community approach, forging discussions with representatives from diverse sectors and seeking to allow the Community-Based Programmes present, to develop and forge fruitful partnerships.

The EIN  is pleased to announce its European Obesity Forum that will take place from 26th – 28th November 2014 in Lisbon, Portugal. The EIN is a not-for-profit organisation that unites communities, politicians, experts and key opinion leaders, as well as representatives of the public and private sector for obesity prevention. Today, the EIN has united more than 35 Community-Based Programmes (CBP) from around the world, of which, over 15 will be attending this year’s European Obesity Forum.

This event is a call to action for European perspectives, solutions and commitments on obesity and NCDs prevention.

The European Obesity Forum will take place over 3 days:

  • 26th – 27th of November: Working sessions with EIN Members only
  • 28th November: Plenary conference with leading experts
