A Modern, Hybrid Approach to Wilderness Medicine
Unlike traditional lecture-heavy CME courses, the WLS:MP program is delivered through a hybrid format that combines interactive online learning with a two-day immersive, in-person training session.
The online component allows participants to master essential content before arrival, using an innovative platform that fosters deeper learning through interactive modules and real-time feedback. This ensures that the in-person retreat can focus on hands-on skill development, live scenarios, and real-world application of wilderness medicine principles.
Clinical Excellence in the Outdoors
The WLS:MP curriculum offers a comprehensive and up-to-date exploration of key wilderness medicine topics. Instruction is led by expert clinicians experienced in emergency, expeditionary, and remote medicine. Over the course of the retreat, participants will gain critical knowledge in:
- Patient assessment and field diagnosis
- Wilderness trauma and musculoskeletal injuries
- Environmental emergencies including heat illness, hypothermia, frostbite, and altitude-related illness
- Wound care, infection management, and evacuation planning
- Dive and lightning medicine, insect bites, water treatment, and more
This evidence-based curriculum is continuously reviewed to reflect current best practices. On successful completion, participants earn the WLS:MP certification, valid for four years, and are eligible for up to 24.25 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 CME and FAWM credit through the Wilderness Medical Society.
An Immersive Retreat in Coastal Panama
More than just a training course, this experience is designed to restore and inspire. Hosted at the Sansara Surf & Yoga Resort on Panama’s Pacific coast, the 6-night retreat places learners in a tranquil beachfront setting where education, adventure, and wellness intersect.
From the moment you arrive in Panama City, logistics are taken care of, allowing you to focus on what matters: learning, exploring, and recharging. Mornings may begin with a yoga session overlooking the ocean; afternoons may include surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, or guided hikes through lush coastal jungles. Evening cacao ceremonies, meditation, and wellness activities provide balance and space for reflection.
You’ll stay in beautifully appointed oceanfront cabanas that reflect local design while offering comfort and seclusion. Gourmet meals made from fresh, local ingredients are included, supporting both physical well-being and sustainable practices.
Loved ones and non-medical guests are welcome, making this not only a professional development opportunity but a meaningful shared experience.
