Care of the injured is rapidly evolving. The recent call for zero preventable deaths has sharpened our efforts to both critically evaluate the way we currently care for trauma patients, and search for innovations which will make that goal achievable. At the same time, the “Silver Tsunami” of elderly injured continues to overwhelm our trauma centers with patients who are in poor health, many with an already limited life expectancy prior to their current injury.
