Welcome to the May edition of GI-Mail.

This month’s issue highlights several internationally oriented educational opportunities and congresses with a strong focus on global health, prevention, and modern healthcare systems. We especially recommend two online learning programmes: “Introduction to the Biology of Cancer” from Johns Hopkins University, offering a broad overview of cancer biology and modern oncology, and “Clinical Management of HIV” from the University of Washington, which provides an evidence-based and globally focused update on HIV prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

Our congress section reflects many of the major healthcare challenges currently shaping international medicine and public health. Topics range from digital health promotion and prevention strategies to regional anaesthesia, perioperative medicine, health economics, and global HIV science. Particularly noteworthy are the international seminars and conferences in Warsaw, Lisbon, Vienna, and Geneva, bringing together experts from clinical medicine, research, public health, and healthcare policy.

Clinical Rotation in Robotic Cardiac Surgery at UPMC Pittsburgh – At the Cutting Edge of Robotic Cardiac Surgery – A Clinical and Academic Experience

During the summer of 2025, I had the opportunity to spend several months in Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania, USA) working on research in robotic cardiac surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Presbyterian Hospital.
