Kursinhalte
Since 1990, this course has \"demystified\" mathematical modelling and kept public-health professionals, policy makers, and infectious disease researchers up-to-date with what they need to know about this fast-moving field, taught by individuals who are actively engaged in research and who advise leading public health professionals, policy-makers, governments, international organisations and pharmaceutical companies (nationally and internationally) including on pandemic influenza, SARS and HIV.
Lernziele, Trainingsziele
The course will enable you to understand the key concepts of infectious -disease transmission and control - and the differences with non-infectious diseases - taught by people who apply those concepts every day.
Zielpublikum
Policy-makers, public-health and disease-control professionals, all who need to apply modern methods of analysis in the epidemiology and control of infectious diseases, in medical, veterinary and conservation contexts
Qualifikationen
Course participants require only a very basic mathematical ability, as the fundamental principles of infectious-disease transmission behaviour are simple to grasp. Nevertheless, they are very powerful and the clearer thinking they promote often leads to counter-intuitive insights, even just from a model diagram sketched on an envelope, or a simple model in Excel. However, misunderstanding of the key principles is common - and there are pitfalls to trap the unaware - so expert guidance is needed when learning.
