By <strong>providing a rationale<\/strong> when asking questions, you share <strong>the<\/strong> <strong>reasons<\/strong> for your actions and your queries. Doing so, you indicate that you acknowledge the patients\u2019 concerns and that you are a good listener.<\/p>\n<p>Providing a rationale is also a sign of respect. It helps patients understand why you ask certain types of questions, or why you want to zoom in on a particular aspect of their rapport.<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-box su-box-style-default\" id=\"\" style=\"border-color:#012264;border-radius:3px;\"><div class=\"su-box-title\" style=\"background-color:#345597;color:#FFFFFF;border-top-left-radius:1px;border-top-right-radius:1px\">Example<\/div><div class=\"su-box-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"border-bottom-left-radius:1px;border-bottom-right-radius:1px\">\n<p><em>\u2018Earlier on you mentioned nausea. I now would like to know more about it. When did it start?\u2019<\/div><\/div><\/em><\/p>\n<p>By providing a rationale, you encourage patients to provide you with better, more complete information.
