Kongressthemen We have reached a fascinating point in the field of ubiquitin research. The attachment of ubiquitin to a protein in the cytosol was first identified as a means to enable the degradation of this protein by the proteasome. Much later it became clear that the ubiquitin system fulfils another crucial cellular function: through the dynamics offered by ubiquitination and subsequent deubiquitination it gives signalling platforms in a plethora of signal transduction pathways the means to initiate.
